FRIGHTFEST 27TH- 31ST AUGUSTThe Gift has been selected for one of the biggest Horror festivals in England, usually held in Leicster Square cineworld and The Prince Charles Cinema. However due to COVID-19 will be held online this year. The Gift is part of the Arrow Video Showcase two on the 27th August at 6pm.
The films may be short, but there is no shortage of scares as Arrow Video FrightFest 2020 showcases the best new short films from the UK and around the world, with six countries representing three continents. From under-the-bed monsters to monsters in front of your eyes, from the sinister and the creepy to the wickedly human and the not-so-human, this year’s selection shines a spotlight on upcoming filmmakers.

LINOLEUM FILM FETSIVAL 2-6 SEPT 2020 The Gift was selcted for Linoleum Film Festival this September and were very excited to be part of there LADIES FIRST SCREENING - Ladies First is a traditional non-competition program. In this block, all the films are made by women for women. The female directors are honest and bold enough to bring up the issues that are rarely raised in society because they seem too embarrassing or sound too provocative at first glance. In many films of this selection, the authors manifest themselves and their presence in society through their bodies, corporeality, sexuality. They also touch upon the importance of self-acceptance.
The Research Behind The GiftThe Gift director Laura-Beth Cowley gave a talk back in May about the research and process of making the film for The Centre for Fine Print Research at The University of West England in Bristol. Due to lock down some of the festivals and conferences we were due to present at the film have been delayed or canceled, so it was nice to be able to engage with people in a digital platform.

A beautiful background designed by the very talented Hannah Stevens, originally the sets for this film were going to be minimalist, but we couldn't resist densely packing them with as much witchy vibes as possible.. See how many you can spot, there is even hidden layers of other Weird eye content from our inktober collection.
We have tried to fit as much into this film as we can to highlight the power, suffering and overall awesomeness of women. This film is about many things, it's about mensuration, it's about witchcraft, it's about ignorance, suffering now and by our ancestors. That's a lot for a short 4 minute film to ponder- the film should lead you through a disruptively simple story a day in the life of one women, but we hope that this one women tells the tale of many. and gives thanks to the strength we hold inside.
